LOS ANGELES -- A former University of Southern California professor accused of traveling abroad to engage in illicit sex acts with children has pleaded not guilty to federal charges. City News Service reports 64-year-old Walter Lee Williams was shackled and wearing street clothes when he appeared in a Los Angeles court Thursday afternoon. U.S. Magistrate Judge Carla Woehrle ordered Williams held pending trial, calling him a flight risk and a danger to the community. The former Palm Springs resident is charged in a four-count indictment alleging crimes involving two 14-year-old boys that he met online in 2010. Williams was arrested Tuesday in Mexico.
